By using duiarrested.com, including its embedded charts and calculators, a visitor agrees to these terms. Anyone who does not agree should not use the site.

A data analysis and visualization project on DUI and DWI arrests, for newsrooms, service providers, researchers and other readers. Its content is general information for analysis and reporting. See the Disclaimer.

Figures labeled Sample data are illustrative placeholders, not real arrest records. Figures with a source are as published by that source and carry its limitations. Some figures are transcribed or processed by us, and errors are possible; where a copy has not been checked against the original, the chart says so.

State law figures are read from the official sources listed on each state's page and can be out of date. County summaries and the calculators built on sample assumptions are illustrative. A figure should be checked against its source before it is cited as a finding.

The way to reuse our charts, maps and calculators is to embed them, for free: the code is on each one’s page and on the Embed page, and the terms for it are in the next section. We do not offer our data as a download, and we do not license our tables, figures or compiled data for republishing, or for building other charts or datasets from them. Reuse beyond an embed needs our permission.

A figure, or a short passage of our text, may be quoted in an article, a report or a slide, with credit:

• name duiarrested.com as the source and, wherever the medium allows a link, link to the page the figure or chart comes from (in print, on air or on a slide, the name and the address are enough);
• say if you changed a figure or the wording;
• keep the Sample data label on any figure that carries it, and do not present such a figure as a finding;
• credit the original source as well where a figure names one.

A credit asks for a mention and, where one fits, a link. We ask for a normal, followed link, and we do not make it a condition: how a link is marked up (followed, nofollow or sponsored) is the choice of the site that publishes it. Each chart page prints a ready-made citation, and the same line with a link you can paste, under “Cite this chart”.

The source data behind a figure stays subject to its publisher’s terms. These terms do not cover the site’s name, logo and marks (other than to name the source), or material from third parties, such as map tiles, which keep the attribution a map shows. Other reuse of the site’s text, charts or figures needs permission.

Charts, maps and calculators can be embedded for free using the code on each one’s page or the Embed page. An embedder agrees to:

• keep the attribution line under the frame, which names duiarrested.com, links to the chart’s or calculator’s page and states what the numbers are, and not remove or rewrite it (how its link is marked up, for example nofollow, is the embedder’s choice);
• keep a calculator’s notice inside the frame, which says its figures are illustrative ranges from sample assumptions and not legal advice, and not hide, cover or alter it;
• not present sample data, or a calculator’s illustrative range, as a finding, a quote or a prediction, and not alter a chart’s figures or labels;
• not put another name, logo or branding in or over the frame, and not imply that duiarrested.com endorses the embedder, its products or its services.

Charts and calculators can be changed or removed at any time, and embeds that break these terms can be blocked.

Visitors agree not to:

• try to identify, locate or contact any person from the data, or to re-identify aggregated counts;
• interfere with the site or its embeds, or scrape them in a way that degrades the service;
• use the site to harass anyone or to break the law.

The site relies on third-party services (analytics, map tiles, hosting) and links to other websites. They are not under our control, and we are not responsible for their content or practices. See the Privacy Policy.

The site is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including accuracy, completeness, availability and fitness for a particular purpose.

To the extent the law allows, the site’s operator is not liable for any loss or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, the site, its embeds or its calculators, including decisions made using their figures.

The site and these terms can change at any time. The date at the top shows the latest version, and continued use means acceptance of it. Access can be restricted for anyone who breaks these terms.
