Privacy Policy

What duiarrested.com and its embeds collect, who receives it and what choices visitors have. The short version: the site has no accounts or forms and does not ask for personal information, and it uses standard analytics, map tiles and hosting that receive routine browser data.

What the site does not collect

There are no accounts, sign-up forms, comments or messaging on the site. It does not ask for a name, an email address or any other contact detail. What a visitor types into a calculator stays in the browser and is not sent to us.

What is collected automatically

  • Analytics on site pages. The site uses Google Analytics 4 and Google Tag Manager. They receive routine request data from the browser, such as the IP address, device and browser type, the page viewed and the page that referred the visitor, and they record interactions such as opening a chart. They may set cookies. Google explains how it handles this data in its Privacy Policy, and the Google Analytics opt-out add-on stops the data being sent.
  • Analytics in embeds. A chart or calculator embedded on another site sends events that identify the embed, the domain of the embedding site (not the page it sits on) and the option a visitor used, such as an offense number or a state. The calculators run in the visitor’s browser: nothing a visitor chooses in one is sent to this site, and the events say which option was used, not who used it. Inside an embed, analytics cookies and ad personalization start switched off (a denied consent state), Google signals are off, and the referrer is reduced to the embedding site’s domain. Tag Manager does not load in embeds.
  • Map tiles. Pages and embeds that show a map load basemap tiles from OpenFreeMap. OpenFreeMap sees the visitor’s IP address and the address of the page that requests the tiles. If the tiles cannot load, the map falls back to a plain background.
  • Hosting. The site is hosted on Vercel, which keeps standard server logs (such as the IP address, the requested address and the time) to deliver and secure the site.
  • Fonts and scripts are served from duiarrested.com itself.

What is stored in the browser

The light or dark theme a visitor picks is saved in the browser’s local storage under the name duiarrested-theme so the site remembers it. Google Analytics may set cookies on site pages. Cookies and local storage can be cleared or blocked in the browser settings, and the site works without them.

How the information is used

Analytics show which pages, charts and calculators are used and how they are embedded, and help fix problems. The site does not sell personal information, does not show advertising, and does not use analytics data to identify individuals.

The arrest data

The dataset behind the charts is being built from public records, such as county booking logs and agency reports, and is published only as aggregates: counts and rates for states, counties and areas about 3 kilometers across, with no area shown unless it has at least 5 arrests in the selection. The site does not publish names, dates of birth, exact addresses, photographs or individual records, and the charts cannot be used to look up a person.

Children

The site is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Choices and rights

The Google Analytics opt-out add-on and the browser controls above are the main choices. The site does not keep personal information itself beyond what the services above collect on its behalf, so requests about analytics or hosting data may need to go to Google or Vercel. Depending on where a visitor lives, local law may give additional rights.
